The Alzheimer's Society
New Forest and Southern Test Valley

The Alzheimer's Society New Forest and Southern Test Valley will be running at the Milford on Sea Village Community Centre:

1) An Art Class specifically for people with dementia. The class is lead by a professional art teacher who has particular experience and understanding of working with people with dementia. The class has produced some outstanding work which has been exhibited in annual exhibitions in Lymington (2009) and Forest Arts New Milton (2010) and has brought real benefits and pleasure to the artists. The group started in 2008 and meets fortnightly during term time.

2) Music Group for people with dementia and their carers. This class is also lead by a professional musician with particular expertise in dementia. The research evidence and our experience to date is that music can bring enormous pleasure and benefits to people with dementia. The Group started in 2009 and meets fortnightly for 10 months of the year

A diagnosis of dementia can come as a shock. Even if you have been half expecting it, this will be a worrying and upsetting time. It can also be hard for those close to you.

You will all need a great deal of reassurance and support. However, there is much that you can do in the early stages that can help to make life easier and more enjoyable, both now and in the future.
