Moviola is a registered charity devoted to getting the big screen into small villages and it's reached Milford!
The organisation is run by Phillip and Christina Walkley, Dorset based film enthusiasts who take enormous trouble to review and sift through countless movies - big block-busters to small budget productions - to find the very best. They only choose the big ones if they're good and they unearth little gems most of us would never have discovered. As well as the feature films they find wonderful shorts - just like the old days - to watch before the interval.
They are almost totally unsubsidised and rely on box office takings. Halls pay 75% of their takings and on last years figures that didn't quite cover the costs of film hiring, staff and overheads.
Milford's Village Community Centre welcomed Moviola in October and November to show The Painted Veil and Grow Your Own; great films. The first was a victim of its own success - too many people and too many heads in the way! So seating will be strictly limited to 70 in future (and on new, comfy chairs). But to make sure no-one's disappointed there will be two showings from now on, one at 3.30 and one at 7.30pm.
The line up from January to April will be Atonement 31st January Elizabeth: The Golden Age 21st February Ratatouille 27th March Into The Wild 24th April
Tickets £4.50 from Gwen's
