OFFICIAL OPENING OF
MILFORD ON SEA VILLAGE
COMMUNITY CENTRE

Lanterns, mulled wine and soup added to the celebrations last Saturday (27th) when Milford's carnival Queen, Katie Gates, cut the tape and officially declared the Village Community Centre open.

During the day villagers, young and not so young,  had made and decorated lanterns, and then returned in the evening to light the lanterns and parade around the Village Green to 'Lighten Up Milford', announcing the opening.

Music was provided by Milford's own swing band, Windmill, to end a few days of events to celebrate the opening - beginning with the official opening of the Youth Club on Tuesday evening and including a lunch on Friday for Milford Business Association and other groups which have supported the Community Centre Trustees in their efforts to realise a Community Centre in Milford on Sea.

Chairman of the  Community Centre Committee, Margaret Richens, told the gathering that the Trustees were really delighted to be able to offer a wide range of activities at the Centre - including a Sunday Lunch Club for people who live alone, a variety of exercise and craft classes as well as offering a smaller meeting room together with a facility for private parties, fund raising events and exhibitions. 

She hopes in the near future that the generous gift of three computers will be put to good use when an Internet café will be established and where local people will have access to the Internet and to help with learning to use it.   

Margaret thanked all the supporters of the Community Centre project - including those people who, during the course of the day, had sponsored a chair - helping to pay for much needed, comfortable folding chairs.

The Trustees are extremely pleased to have recently received a grant from the Local Network Fund which will enable four projects and workshops for young people to be undertaken, hopefully leading to qualifications and real opportunities.

Forthcoming events at the Village Community Centre include a film evening when 'Grow Your Own' will be shown on November 15 and a family barn dance on November 17.
