MILFORD WINS THE LOTTERY!
Milford's Community Centre is thrilled to announce that it has been offered a grant from the Big Lottery Fund's Community Building Programme of £500,000. This, together with partnership funding from Hampshire County Council's Community Buildings and Youth Capital funds, New Forest District Council, Milford on Sea Parish Council, and local villagers and businesses, will enable it to replace the temporary buildings in Sea Road and the Car Park. Hurrah!
The prefabricated building in Sea Road has been bursting at the seams since it opened in June 2007 while planning permission on the temporary youth building in the car park will run out soon. Both buildings will be replaced with a single, eco-friendly, state of the art new building on the Sea Road site. It is hoped that the project will go out to tender shortly and intended that building work will start this September and be completed well in time for the Grand Opening in September 2010.
Studio Four Architects Ltd from Southampton were selected to design and lead the project which will incorporate many green features. These will include a bio-massed boiler fuelled by local pellets from the New Forest, heat recovery systems, under floored heating, roof designed to minimise heat loss and windows positioned to maximise daylight while avoiding solar gain. The new Centre will upgrade all the facilities in the current buildings together with a state of the art performance space enabling it to offer much higher presentation of existing events, bands, concerts etc and to show cinema quality films, small scale theatre and dance etc.
The only downside is that for some months there will be no Community Centre. The Committee is hopeful that it will be able to find temporary homes for most of the regular events and feels sure that everyone will be delighted when they return to the sparkling new Community Centre in the autumn of 2010. In the meantime fundraising must go on to fund the equipment and internal facilities of the new Centre. Thank you the Big Lottery Fund, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council, Milford on Sea Parish Council and all our friends and supporters in the Village. It will be worth the wait!
